With the end of school comes the beginning of summer and you’ll be looking for easy crafts for kids to make. Whether these cute little pinecone owls are made as a summer camp craft or just something fun for fall, they’re adorable and will look great perched in your child’s bedroom or bunk.
Why this project works
These pinecone owls are surely cute, and oh so easy to make. They can be made with whatever colors you or your child desires! Place them on a bookshelf or nightstand for an adorable nature kid’s craft.

How to Make Pinecone Owls

- If not painting, hot glue 2 of the acorn tops onto the pine cone, next to each other for the eyes.
- If you would like a colorful owl, paint the pine cone whatever color you desire.
- Next, paint the acorn tops white and let dry, then use the handle end of a paintbrush to add the black pupils.
- Once everything is dry, glue 2 of the acorn tops onto the pine cone, next to each other for the eyes.
- From the third pine cone, cut a triangle shape for the beak (paint the beak orange if you like) and glue under the eyes.
- Glue a small feather into the side of the pine cone, repeat on the other side.
Super fun! These little pinecone owls are easy to make and the more you have, the cuter the flock looks!
Craft Tips
- If you are concerned about little bugs in your pinecones that’s easy to remedy. Turn your oven on to 250 F and bake your pinecones for 45 minutes. Let them cool and you are ready to start making your pinecone owls.
- If you prefer, you can use instant grab glue instead of hot glue.
- Acorn tops can be soaked in water to loosen any caked on dirt. You can gently scrub them with an old toothbrush using baking soda. Bake in a 250 F oven for 45 minutes to dry.
- You can display these in your child’s room, use them as table placeholders, put them in a basket on the porch, or perch them on your fireplace mantel!
