I’ve got a super fun Christmas craft to share with you today. I love making popsicle stick ornaments for Christmas and have made lots over the years, but I think this one might be my absolute favorite. I turned popsicle sticks into little miniature Christmas market booths!

I’m channeling all the Hallmark movie vibes and imagining a quaint small town that hosts a holiday market each Christmas where old friends meet and fall in love as they browse cute little booths full of festive goodies.

So why not make miniature Christmas market stalls out of popsicle sticks and turn them into ornaments?! It just sounded so fun to me I had to give it a try. And they turned out better than I could have dreamed.

Let me show you how to make your own.

Materials Needed

  • 8 Regular Popsicle Sticks per Ornament
  • 1 Jumbo Craft Stick or Wood Shape (for the sign)
  • Craft Paint + Paint Brushes
  • Paint Markers and/or Gel Pens
  • Embellishments (lots of ideas below)

Instructions

Step 1: Assemble the popsicle sticks. Start by placing the two vertical poles, then use hot glue to attach four popsicle sticks horizontally to the bottom. Turn the next popsicle stick 90 degrees and glue it on top of the four sticks. This is the “countertop” part of the booth. Glue the last stick at the top of the vertical poles.

Step 2: Paint all the sticks in Christmas colors. I just used a small brush and regular craft paint, but if you’re doing this craft with kids and don’t want to worry about the mess, you can use regular Crayola markers to color them. Works like a charm and no mess!

Step 3: Decide on the type of booth you want to make. It could be anything you can dream up, but here’s a list of ideas to get your wheels turning.

  • Hot Cocoa
  • Jingle Bells
  • Gift Wrapping
  • Bake Shoppe
  • Christmas Cookies/Candies/Cakes
  • Sleigh Repair
  • Reindeer Barn
  • Ugly Sweaters
  • Mittens & Scarves
  • Candles
  • Christmas Lights
  • Tree Farm
  • Gingerbread Shoppe
  • Toy Workshop
  • Snowballs

Make a little sign by cutting a jumbo popsicle stick to size, then paint it. When the paint is dry, use a paint marker or gel pen to write the shop name.

Step 4: Add all the cute embellishments and details to fit your shop theme. You can make the embellishments out of paper or clay or look in the Christmas miniatures section or the Christmas jewelry section at the craft store. I’ve also found good stickers that work too.

Step 5: Cut a loop of ribbon and glue it onto the back of the ornament so it can hang on your Christmas tree. This step can be skipped if you don’t want to turn them into ornaments.

And that’s it! Here are some close up photos of the four market stalls I made and details about all of the embellishments I used too.

I tell you what, this is SUCH a super fun project. It would be an absolute blast to do for a craft night or with a class full of (older) kids. A craft like this is so fun to do in a group because everyone can make something different and you get to see all the variations. You can go all out with the details or keep it fairly simple. So stinkin’ fun!

I hope you’ll give this holiday craft a try. Merry Christmas!
