Learn how to make a baby shower crate closet. Turn a wooden crate into the cutest baby shower gift to display baby clothes.
Today’s craft tutorial is one of THE cutest things I’ve ever made. I am so excited to share it with you! I made a crate closet baby shower gift and it is just absolutely adorable.
This project is made possible by my generous sponsors at Hobby Lobby.
I’m going to share the tutorial so you can make a baby shower crate closet too, because this is just too cute not to share. I found the easiest way to do it and I will walk you through every step of the project. It’s actually very simple and doesn’t take long at all. I spent wayyyy more time shopping for baby clothes than I did putting this display together. LOL.
Let’s get to it!
Materials Needed
I found some really adorable baby items that I added to the crate and thought you might want the links. I loved the color combo of the letter puzzle and stacking toy that I used it as my color inspiration for the whole project.
Instructions
Don’t miss the video tutorial below. Sometimes it’s just so helpful to see how something is done.
Step 1: Cut the scallop wood trim to size so it fits on the front of the crate. Add wood glue to the back, then clamp it to the crate until the wood glue dries.
Step 2: Add a dab of hot glue to the round end of one wooden dowel, then run a small line of hot glue up the side. Use this glue to tack the dowel to the center side of the crate. Make sure it’s centered and straight up and down. Then use zip ties to fasten the dowel to the crate more securely. I used two zip ties going across each side of the dowel to make an X.
Repeat with the second dowel on the other side of the crate.
Step 3: Cut the third dowel down to 21 inches long (or to the same length as your crate if you’re using a different one than me). Attach this dowel horizontally onto the two vertical dowels. I found it works best to loosely fasten one zip tie to each connecting point, then adjust everything to make it straight and square, then tighten down the ties and add a second one to each side to make the X.
And that’s it! You’ve built the structure of the crate closet. Pretty simple, right?
Step 4: Now comes the fun part. It’s time to decorate! I chose to leave my crate natural wood, but you could stain or paint your crate if you want to. I wrapped the dowels with a pretty lamb’s ear garland and added pink hydrangeas and love how it turned out. The garland also helps hide the zip ties.
All that’s left is to fill the crate with baby gifts and hang cute baby clothes from the rod and then you are ready get all the “ooooohs” and “aaaaaaahs” at the baby shower. Because seriously, does it get any cuter?!
And don’t you worry boy moms, I did a boy version too. Just take those pink flowers off, add in boy clothes and accessories and you are in business!
What do you think of this gift idea? Isn’t it so much fun?! If you are hosting a baby shower, it would be such a cute display at the gift table. You could have people bring outfits to add to the closet instead of wrapping them individually. Wouldn’t that be great?!
