Days after releasing his Summer 2025 collection for Celine, Hedi Slimane’s departure from the Maison has been confirmed. Slimane, who served as artistic, creative, and image director at the iconic French House for the last seven years, succeeding Phoebe Philo, will be remembered for his distinct vision.
Since his appointment in February 2018, Slimane has focused on redefining the brand’s heritage codes, fusing Celine’s DNA with iconic Parisian femininity. Under Slimane’s direction and strong point of view, the Maison has seen incredible growth despite early trepidations from Philophiles and fashion insiders alike.
A press release for his departure states, “The extraordinary journey taken together over the last seven years has made Celine a House with a formidable foundation for the future.” After months of speculation, the rumors are now confirmed that Slimane will be replaced by Michael Rider, whose appointment will begin early next year.
The Next Chapter
Rider, who departed his post as creative director for Ralph Lauren in May, began his career at Balenciaga under creative genius Nicolas Ghesquière. He then spent ten years as design director at Celine underneath Phoebe Philo, and now the designer returns to take over the brand’s helm.
Rider will oversee all creative aspects of the Maison, from women’s and menswear to couture, accessories, and handbags.
“Celine is a maison with values very clsoe to my heart and a beautiful heritage to build on. I am honored to back and shape the future of the Maison together with the Celine team.” – Michael Rider
