Today I’m sharing an absolutely darling Halloween craft idea. It’s easy. It’s cute. It doesn’t take any fancy tools or materials. And honestly, making it was the most creative fun I’ve had in ages. I’m going to show you how to make little Halloween witches out of disposable wooden spoons!

To make this craft you will need the following.

Materials

  • Disposable Wooden Spoons
  • Assorted Scrapbook Paper
  • Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
  • School Glue Stick or Glue Pen
  • Paint Pens or Gel Pens
  • Cotton Swab and Pink Chalk
  • Assorted Embellishments: Ribbon, Beads, Lace, Sequins, Washi Tape, etc.

You can find disposable wooden spoons at most craft stores in the party supply section, but these wooden spoons were the best price I saw anywhere.

As a retired scrapbooker, I had soooo many little doodads and embellishments lying around. Dig around in your craft stash and see what you can find. This is also the perfect craft to use some of your patterned paper scraps.

Instructions

Step 1: Use a pencil to draw out a dress shape, witches hat, hair, etc. onto the back side of paper scraps (that way your pencil lines won’t show). I traced the spoon shape onto the paper to help me get the right sizing.

Step 2: Glue all of the paper pieces to the spoon. I used a school glue stick for the legs and dress and hot glue for the hair since there wasn’t a lot of surface area to attach it to. Remember to attach the pieces in the right order… legs first, then dress, hat on top of hair, etc. Work from back to front.

Step 3: This is the most fun step! Add embellishments like bows, beads, buttons, etc. Get creative and have fun with it.

Step 4: The last step is to add a face. I used a black gel pen for the eyes and a pink Sharpie for the lips. Paint pens or gel pens are better for this project because the Sharpie ink bleeds into the wood, but you can make a Sharpie work okay-ish in a pinch.

To make the perfect rosy cheeks, I dabbed a bit of pink chalk on the end of a cotton swab and gently rubbed it on the wood. Worked like a charm!

Aren’t these little ladies just adorable?! Take a minute to look at all the details. Squeel!

As a kid I dreamed of being a fashion designer, so this was totally up my alley putting together all the different outfits and accessorizing. It was just SO MUCH FUN!
