I feel like Memorial Day is the start of patriotic season in the United States. We have Memorial Day, Flag Day and the Fourth of July in a three-month span, and it feels like it’s always appropriate to have summer decor in red, white and blue.
Over the years I’ve shared plenty of patriotic cross stitch patterns (see Fourth of July cross stitch and American flag cross stitch, to name just a couple) but today I wanted to share some projects with patriotic sentiment that aren’t necessarily tied to a particular holiday.
For example, this America cross stitch pattern from The Elegant Thread. It uses seven colors and is 78 by 57 stitches, or 5.5 by 4 inches/13.9 by 10 cm on 14 count fabric. The pattern chart is free on their website.
Janlynn has a flag design shaped like a heart that is a free pattern on their website as well. Designed by Sandy Garbrandt, is measures 47 by 48 stitches and uses five colors for the cross stitching and three for back stitches. It measures 3.25 by 3.375 inches (8.2 by 8.5 cm) on 14 count fabric. This one is on a free patterns page; scroll down and click on the image and the PDF will download automatically.
This patriotic sunflower from Etsy seller Mamida Pattern is a perfect project for summer. Worked in just three colors, it measures 100 by 97 stitches, which comes out to 7.1 by 6.9 inches, or 18.1 by 17.6 cm when stitched on 14 count fabric.
America the Beautiful from The French Giraffe is made to fit in a 4 by 4 inch (10 by 10 cm) frame and is a great little project for a newer stitcher. It uses three colors and is 48 by 48 stitches.
Another one on the theme of “land that I love” is this pattern worked as a pillow from Calico Confectionery. This one has a vintage style with toned down colors, but you could choose bolder hues if you like. It measures 151 by 78 stitches and is shown on 16 count fabric.
On go with the classic text “We the People” styled as written in the preamble to the Constitution. This pattern is from Spring Rose Crafts and is shown stitched in black, but you could change it to red, white and blue if you wanted. It measures 5 by 14 inches (12.7 by 35.5 cm) stitched on 14-count fabric.
