Supplies needed to make a mason jar bird feeder:
How to make a mason jar bird feeder:
- Boil 1/4 cup of water.
- Add the water to a bowl and then stir in 1/2 a package of unflavored gelatin. Mix well.
- Stir in corn syrup.
- Then stir in flour until everything is combined.
- Add this mixture to the bird seed. Mix well. I find it easiest just to use my hands for this portion.
- Stuff the mixture down inside your mason jar. Add in your dowel rod and add mixture in around the rod.
- Continue until the mixture is in the jar then press down well.
- Cut off a long piece of wire and then wrap both ends around the handle of the mason jar.
- Hang your mason jar bird feeder anywhere in your yard where you want to attract the birds.
You might even want to make several of these. The birds will love this homemade suet cake in a mason jar. You also get the benefit of being able to watch them as they dine on this flavorful snack. The kids will love it!
