In our ongoing ‘Brands You Should Know’ series, we turn our attention to those often overlooked or unknown in the realm of carry.
Tracksmith is a brand that resonates deeply with us at Carry HQ. Originating from Massachusetts, this independent and forward-thinking running brand has garnered global admiration for designing running products that easily crossover from running to daily and travel adventures.
Its product line continually expands, merging performance and style through clean and elegant designs. And over the past five years, my collection of Tracksmith gear has steadily grown, each new release bringing fresh innovations and, more recently, impressive hybrid products. Drawing inspiration from bygone eras and merging it with contemporary performance fabrics, Tracksmith crafts gear that’s making significant waves in the industry.
Their commitment to community events—an aspect we particularly cherish—provides individuals with the support and tools to push their boundaries.
Here are our top picks from this Boston-based brand, showcasing why Tracksmith deserves your attention and admiration.
Tracksmith Brighton Base Layer ($90)
One of my first ever Tracksmith pieces, the Brighton Base Layer is constructed with an engineered Merino mesh carefully designed to be more open around your core, while the sleeves feature a closed knit for more warmth. Originally designed as as a base layer for use under a mid or outer layer, I’ve found that the shirt can also be worn as a standalone piece. I’ve worn this snowboarding, hiking, and even on days in the winter when I just want a little more warmth to battle the cold front. It’s exceptionally comfortable thanks to its seamless construction, and has held up to five years of abuse no questions asked.
Tracksmith Run Surf Run Shorts (US$95)
Running shorts aren’t designed for swimming. Likewise, swimming shorts don’t tend to fare well on dry land. But the Run Surf Run Shorts are tailor-made to do both like a champ. Constructed with Italian fabric previously utilized in Olympic speed suits, the shorts wick moisture and dry quickly, while an inbuilt liner offers comfy support. Other features include a drop-in pocket and a zippered pocket for carrying small essentials. These are the kinds of shorts that people ask you about, and once you tell them about their duplicitous schemes they ask where they can buy them. A fun design conceals their true performance chops, a one bag travel hero for sure.
Tracksmith Off Roads Shorts (US$100)
On the whole, I’m not a huge fan of lined shorts, but these are different. When it’s time to tackle the trails, the Off Roads Shorts offer comfortable, dependable performance. Made with a lightweight quick-drying shell and liner, the shorts have an adjustable waistbelt, easy movement through the legs for a full range of motion, and six pockets to store trail essentials such as gels and EDC. They’ve become my favourite shorts to wear for anything truly active whether it’s running, a session at the gym, or even hot hikes, these shorts stay out of the way and let you do your thing. I really enjoy the integrated waist belt for a personalised fit!
Tracksmith Trackhouse Sweatshirt (US$130)
Simply put – my favourite hoodie. This is as good as they get. Made with a heavy duty but soft reverse-weave cotton blend designed not to pill, the sweatshirt has a ribbed hem, side gussets, and cuffs to maintain its shape. This feels like the classic hoodie has been upgraded. It bundles you up warm and looks fantastic too, it’s cozy piece that’s perfect for post-workout lounging, travel, and everything inbetween. I have three of these, they’re that good. Even the handy kangaroo pocket has a trick up its sleeve with an elasticated key pocket, you’ve got the perfect place to store gear close at hand. Did I mention the colours? Perfect mellow shades of all your favourites, ready to blend into any outfit.
Tracksmith Longfellow Shorts (US$140)
These shorts don’t look like their made for action but beneath the smart looks, the Longfellow Shorts are highly technical performance shorts made with Eliot Stretch material. This water-repellent Bluesign-certified material has four-way stretch and a double-weave construction with exterior synthetic fibers and interior Coolmax fibers to wick moisture. These are perfect for putting in the miles and then heading to lunch afterwards. An ideal option for those seeking the middle ground between short shorts and baggy longer shorts, the Longfellow Shorts also offer a zippered phone pocket and discreet waistband pocket. Excellent tailoring means that these will give all the chino shorts in your drawer a run for their money.
Tracksmith Fells Rugby (US$150)
I didn’t realise that this is a shirt I’ve always wanted until I had it in my hands. Growing up in England, I have a soft spot for retro rugby shirts, but they’re pretty heavy and cumbersome if we’re honest. When I got this waffled-texture Merino wool beauty in my hands it was love at first sight. With a merino blend construction, the Fells Rugby is a versatile all-rounder for active pursuits or casual days around town. Temperature regulating, moisture wicking, and odor resistant, it’s an excellent travel option for those on the move. Smart enough for dinner, and speedy enough for personal bests, one of my Tracksmith favourites.
Tracksmith Rapid Transit Crew (US$160)
The whole Rapid Transit collection is top drawer, but if I had to pick out one item from it, it’d be the Rapid Transit Crew. It’s a great choice for those seeking a versatile sweater for runs, everyday wear, and travel wardrobes. Made with a merino wool blend featuring a textured finish, the crewneck sweatshirt is breathable and moisture-wicking, with a relaxed fit that delivers enticing all-day comfort. It’s comfortable, stylish, and understated–just what you want when you travel!
Tracksmith Rapid Transit Popover (US$200)
A close second is the Rapid Transit Popover. it’s ideal for staying smart and comfy on the go, the Rapid Transit Popover combines tailored design with sporty performance, you know what they say? Look good, feel good! The three-button placket and collar with stays bring a touch of style to everyday and travel wear, while the lightweight and breathable construction with four-way stretch ensures welcome comfort throughout the day. Add in a discreet zippered pocket for small items like a card or keys and you’re good to go. This is performance meeting style and getting along swimmingly.
Tracksmith Eliot Runner (US$198)
Taking inspiration from New England’s natural surfaces, the Eliot Runner is a neutral running shoe that fuses understated aesthetics with dependable performance. But don’t let that fool you, it’s not just for the hard yards chasing time trials, it is an exceptionally comfortable everyday shoe also. Available in sizes suitable for both men and women, the shoe uses a plush Pebax® footbed combined with a responsive midsole, creating an enticing blend of cushioning and energy return. An engineered mesh upper and a synthetic suede collar and eyestays round out the details. It comes in a whole range of colours for any style, and it was a finalist in last years carry awards!
Tracksmith Nor’Easter Jacket (US$300)
Outerwear is a newer frontier for Tracksmith, and the Nor’Easter is a killer addition to any quiver. When the temperature plummets, the Nor’Easter Jacket is a savvy choice for an outer layer. It has a fantastic cut mimicking the old school bomber style that goes with almost any outfit you can think of. But as you might have anticipated by now with Tracksmith, there is more beneath the surface! The jacket repels wind and water well, while the full merino liner provides lightweight temperature-regulating insulation and odor resistance. A two-way zipper makes it easy to release built-up heat if required, while reflective detailing helps keep you visible in low-light conditions. Additionally, you’ll also find an assortment of pockets to store small essentials, along with four-way stretch for freedom of movement. This has become a travel favourite of mine, it’s perfect for the plane, looks good in the pub, and performs when/if you need to kick the hangover to the curb the next day!
Tracksmith continues to impress us at Carry HQ. While their roots and inspiration are undoubtedly focused in the running world, you don’t have to be an Olympian to enjoy their products. Timeless design, reliable construction, and impeccable materials make Tracksmith a brand that will upgrade your wardrobe in an instant. Keep an eye out for the little hare, they’re moving fast.
