Julian Pace makes you think about the things you love, collect and why your knowledge of popular culture is so subconscious it almost permeates your daily life where you least expect it. Although I have followed sports over my 42 years of life, with both dedicated intensity and sometimes passive observation, Pace’s paintings and drawings are recognizable as both iconic and sort of this rare experiment of tracing your steps of memory. On view now at Sotheby’s in Beverly Hills is Julian Pace: Beloved Artifacts, a body of work of sports iconography that is a testament to our collective understanding of fame and lore. —Evan Pricco
